2018 in Review: Top 10 Instagram Posts

As frustrating as Instagram is it’s still my favorite social media. It’s fantastic for getting inspiration for upcoming travels and it’s a fantastic outlet for your creativity. I’ve struggled with engagement this year so next year will be all about posting what I want and less about trying to follow the Instagram trends. However, I still love a good year end wrap up so to roundup 2018 I’ve put together a post of my 10 Top Instagram Posts for the year! Check them out below to get a bit of an insight into what worked well for me on Instagram this year and what you guys liked most.

First off we have the stunning treasury in Petra, Jordan! Visiting Petra was incredibly amazing and we woke up super early and were actually the first ones through the gate and approaching the treasury through the canyon is probably a memory I won’t forget for a very long time.

I don't know how much you guys know about Petra but before visiting I sort of assumed the Treasury was like the whole point (spoiler alert: it isn't! But more on that in my next post!). I also had zero idea just on how big the Petra area is. I sort of thought the Treasury was the first thing you'd see but boy was I wrong. It was a solid one hour walk from the entrance to the Treasury. We did stop incredibly often because we were impressed by literally everything so I don't think it's an hour for everyone but it was just another aspect I totally had no idea about before arriving there. However, once you pass through the 2 km canyon you're greeted by the Treasury through the crack between the rocks and it makes for an excellent picture! It's also the ultimate hype up to enjoy the rest of the park! —————————————————- #mytorontomyworld #treasury #petra #unesco #unescoworldheritagesite #shareyourjordan #jordanpass #middleeasttravel #visitjordan #jordantravel #bbctravel #bbcwildlife #fodorsonthego #lonelyplanettraveller #exploretheworld #roamtheplanet #travelbug #travelmore #touroftheworld #passionpassport #exploretocreate #explore #instatravel #travelgram #travel #igtravel #instapassport #instatraveling #mytravelgram

The Jordan posts did well in general and this one of me taking a break while climbing some rocks in the Wadi Rum Desert ranked in the top ten as well! The desert was a very cool experience and we had a ton of fantastic sightseeing opportunities in the desert which I can’t wait to share when I finally catch up on my backlog of blog posts.

After spending the night camping in a Bedouin Camp in the Wadi Rum Desert (with actual beds!) we then did a 7 hour private jeep tour of the desert. We stopped for lunch at a Bedouin Camp located at the place where Lawrence of Arabia was shot and got to enjoy a traditional lunch after climbing actual cliffs in the desert. The whole experience was surreal and I can't wait to put into words how amazing it was! —————————————————- #mytorontomyworld #WadiRum #wadirumdesert #shareyourjordan #jordanpass #middleeasttravel #visitjordan #jordantravel #bbctravel #fodorsonthego #lonelyplanettraveller #exploretheworld #roamtheplanet #travelbug #travelmore #wearetravelgirls #sheisnotlost #femmetravel #dametraveler #girlsborntotravel #girlaroundworld #girlsabroad #travelgirlsgo #thetravelwomen #ladiesgoneglobal #girlswithgypsysouls #globelletravels #thefairytalebloggers #girlslovetravel

Living so close to Niagara Falls is pretty handy for wanting to play tourist. It’s obviously one of the most popular places in Canada and believe it or not, it actually made my top 10 list twice! Look for the second shot further down!

One of the charms of living in Toronto is how close it is to Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls is about 1-2 hours away depending on traffic and it makes it incredibly easy to see the falls in every kind of weather. Another "charm" of living in Toronto and Ontario is the weather. While it does get incredibly cold and snowy (like -30 degrees kind of cold) it also gets absolutely magical. The very first day of 2018 we stopped by Niagara Falls on the way home from New York and saw the falls partially frozen over. The first picture is the Canadian side and the second one is the American one. Which do you like better? ❄️❄️❄️ I think my vote is for the Canadian one. It's just so majestic. —————————————————- #mytorontomyworld #niagarafalls #visitniagara #escapetoronto #ontario #discoverON #ontario_adventures #exploreontario #explorecanada #canada150 #canada #canadagem #canadaday #imagesofcanada #thecanadiancollective #yearofcanada #tourcanada #localtravel #backyardtravel #letsgosomewhere #darlingescapes #lovetotravel #traveldiary #explore #instatravel #travelgram #travel #igtravel #instapassport #instatraveling

While we didn’t visit Greece in 2018 I did finally start writing some of the posts so I shared a few more pictures from our visit to Meteora. The Meteora Monasteries was one of my favourite parts of our trip to Greece and the friendly cats only made the visit more fun. This beautiful little guy clearly got some love from Instagram!

New post #ontheblog featuring the stunning Meteora Monasteries in Greece. This little fellow striked a pose in front of St. Stephen's Monastery which is one of the more accessible monasteries. Head over to the blog to read more about our day hiking the monasteries! —————————————————- #mytorontomyworld #catsofinstagram #meteora #monasteries #kalambaka #greece #visitgreece #greecestagram #lovegreece #travelgreece #ig_greece #travel #igtravel #travelgram #instapassport #instatraveling #passionpassport #exploretocreate #travelmore #touroftheworld #seemore #travelbloggers #travelblog #fodorsonthego #bbctravel #wanderlust #pixeltheplanet #ilovetravel #travelporn

We started the year in New York City which was my 4th visit to the city yet somehow I had very few picture to show for it! I was definitely trying to remedy that on this particular trip and I had seen a similar shot to this on Instagram before and was dying to recreate it! It’s obviously popular for a reason, it’s hard to argue with that New York skyline!

This is the second Niagara Falls shot I was talking about! I personally think this one got so many likes because it’s quite different from the typical shots you see of Niagara Falls.

This picture is actually one of my own favorites from this year. We had decided to do the hike for the above view of the Treasury regardless of whether we could find the spot for this epic picture or not so actually finding it after like a solid 3 hour hike was super accomplishing. It’s quite an incline and as you can guess it got super hot by the time we reached the top so I felt super accomplished getting this shot!

The Treasury is spectacular no matter where you see it from. Walking into Petra and having the canyon open onto the Treasury is absolutely perfect. It's everything you hoped for and more. However, I have to seriously recommend doing the 2.5-3 hour round trip hike to the top to see it from above. It's so incredibly rewarding and so much less crowded! It's fairly steep and way too many steps but honestly it's just the best view ever! —————————————————- #mytorontomyworld #treasury #petra #unesco #unescoworldheritagesite #shareyourjordan #jordanpass #middleeasttravel #visitjordan #jordantravel #bbctravel #bbcwildlife #fodorsonthego #lonelyplanettraveller #exploretheworld #roamtheplanet #travelbug #travelmore #touroftheworld #passionpassport #exploretocreate #explore #instatravel #travelgram #travel #igtravel #instapassport #instatraveling #mytravelgram

Another shot of the Meteora Monasteries made the top 10 a well and this time you can see more of the actual monasteries and cliffs!

Another one from Meteora (heads up, totally going to share a bunch from there this week!). While the monasteries themselves are of course the highlight of visiting Meteora make sure you pull over at different parts of the road to take in the stunning views. Stay safe of course! The cliff edges are not to be messed with! —————————————————- #mytorontomyworld #meteora #monasteries #architecture #architectureporn #kalambaka #greece #visitgreece #greecestagram #lovegreece #travelgreece #ig_greece #travel #igtravel #travelgram #instapassport #instatraveling #passionpassport #exploretocreate #travelmore #touroftheworld #seemore #travelbloggers #travelblog #fodorsonthego #bbctravel #wanderlust #pixeltheplanet #ilovetravel #travelporn

We finally got to visit Quebec City this year which I’ve been dying to do and one of my favourite areas was the Petit Champlain neighborhood and while heading out of it we came across this beautiful old building that had the benefit of framing the incredibly famous Chateau Frontenac in the back!

Last but certainly not least, my most liked picture of the year was one of me exploring the frozen Tiffany Falls in Hamilton in mid-January last year!

Brand new post up on the blog tonight! We went chasing (frozen) waterfalls in Hamilton last weekend and I couldn't wait to share the pictures. I used to be really, really, really good with the cold. Like I didn't even have to zip up my jacket in the winter. But then I somehow got old (at least I think it's old age haha) and now me and the cold don't get along too well. However, I've come to accept that if you dress appropriately there's no such thing as bad weather. So wearing two pairs of socks, my timberland's, jeans, leggings and the thickest jacket I've ever owned, we braved -30 degree weather and explored three different waterfalls in Hamilton. The pictures are up on the blog as well as some info on where to check them out yourselves. ❄️ Make sure to check back in on Instagram in the next few days as I post more pictures from our frozen waterfall adventures! ❄️Are you a winter explorer or do you hibernate in the cold?
